Welcome to our first blog post! We are so excited to begin something this special, so we thought of course our first post should be our most recent travel — our road trip from Arkansas to California and back for our 2nd anniversary! This one was so fun, and we hope you love it! We had thought about doing a big trip like this for a while, and few months before our anniversary, we looked at some AirBnBs, and just decided to go for it!
These are photos we took on iPhone + 35mm and medium format film. Plus a few videos from a vlog we started but never put together. We hope this can inspire you to plan your own trips, and maybe try some of these locations out. This was a big trip, with many hours spent on the road, but we planned and saved ahead of time, and the whole thing was worth it, All of it was on a budget, so we know anyone can make trips like this happen.
Our fist stop was in Albuquerquem, NM after a very long day of driving, followed by Phenix, AZ Where we stayed at this super quirky hotel called The Graduate! Definitely recommend if you’re ever in the area!
We actually ate ramen any chance we could get this entire trip, haha. Still nothing tops our fav in OKC.
After many hours on the road. . . that stretch is brutal.
Next up, we finally got to Joshua Tree where we had our place booked for several nights. This is one of the spots Noah had traveled to before we met, so it was special to return there together. If you book an airbnb near the park, make sure you stop to get food to make a few miles beforehand, cause there’s nothing around once you get in to the park.
Our first night in Joshua Tree. The best part about the house we stayed in was the minimalistic structure designed around nature. We went out there to unplug for a quiet week and it was just that. Slow and quite.
Can’t say enough about Joshua Tree. It quickly became one of our favorite spots ever. It’s a quiet park. The light is more gold, and everything but the critters living on the desert floor is still, and overall, it’s the perfect place to unplug and live slow for a bit.
On June 26th (our anniversary) we drove to Laguna Beach to spend the day by the ocean, were we got quite sunburnt. We wanted to be by the ocean for our actual anniversary. And that completed our trip to the very edge of the west coast from Arkansas. (not for the faint of heart haha)
Dinner by the sea at sundown with wine, bread, and fish. What more do you need ya feel?
Before heading back east, there was one more place we wanted to see. What’s a southwest California trip without seeing Palm Springs and eating In n Out? This spot is so magical! If you want to feel like you literally stepped into an Elvis Presley 1960’s film plz go to Palm Springs. Felt like another world.
On our way back we decided to camp near Las Cruses, NM before hitting up White Sands the next day. This is where road tripping has it’s advantages. We got to see SO MUCH because of all the miles we covered to get to our destination, which was worth it!
The exact same tree Noah hammocked in a month before we met — we went back and found the same one to camp in.
White sands is unlike any other place. The sound travels for miles, and the sand is incredibly soft. We only stayed for a couple hours exploring around, but apparently you can camp out there! We got lucky with the huge billowing clouds overhead.
Definitely worth the stop!
Welp, that’s it folks! Thank you for joining us here for our first travel feature! Can’t wait to share more with you!
Let us know if you loved it!
